Winchester’s finest independent businesses attended the historic Guildhall on Friday 3rd June, suited and booted for the city’s classiest and most prestigious event of the year: The Winchester Business Excellence Awards 2016. Not only did Jeremy France Jewellers scoop the award for ‘Independent Business of the Year’, but were also finalists in the ‘Service Excellence’ category.

The bar was certainly set high with an exceptional calibre of finalists. Rally driving champion Penny Mallory kicked off proceedings with her tales of a successful racing career, and the Mayor of Winchester invited guests to join her in a beautifully prepared three-course meal. The champagne was flowing, the dinners were served and the audience was on tenterhooks awaiting the judges’ final decisions.

The award for ‘Independent Business of the Year’ was sponsored by the Winchester BID (Business Improvement District); a non-profit organisation that supports the local area and its businesses, working towards a greener, cleaner and safer city. Owner Jeremy France is the past chairman of the BID, so took great pleasure in wearing the shoe on the other foot!

“Winchester is extremely proud of its independent businesses, which make the city an individual and exciting place to visit. This award aims to recognise the substantial ongoing contribution that independent businesses make in growing and sustaining our economy as well as providing excellent customer experiences”. Jeremy and his team worked hard to maintain their excellent reputation of providing the highest standards, in preparation for the imminent mystery shopper visits. The winner of such a prestigious award had to have demonstrated to the judges that they could provide a ‘first class’ level of customer service, consistently excellent customer engagement, as well as the ability to adapt to consumer and trading trends. With such a stringent list of judging criteria, Jeremy France Jewellers proved that they really are deserving of such a title.

The glamorous champagne event was certainly an evening to remember. Jeremy generously invited his entire staff to join him at the ceremony, who happily took the opportunity to advertise their stunning array of diamonds!

The team at Jeremy France Jewellers have been overwhelmed by their customers’ support, and feel immensely honored by this achievement; standing proud as an independent, family-run jewellers at the heart of Winchester High Street.
