In Kent over 34 years ago Jeremy trained as a jewellery repairer and goldsmith and went knocking on jewellery shop doors asking if they needed his skills. After many knock backs he finally built a customer base and was busy in his workshop providing jewellery shops with repairs and sizings. After a few years Jeremy decided to expand and wanted to open a shop himself. At the heart of Jeremy’s new venture was still his workshop which remains true today, 34 years later.
Fast forward to today, our goldsmiths workshop is located on our first floor of our Winchester shop equipped with state of the art laser welders, a separate polishing room and 5 talented goldsmiths including our workshop manger Chris, who is Jeremy’s son. With over 70 years of combined knowledge and experience, our skilled goldsmiths each specialise in a certain part of goldsmithing including, repairs, manufactures, setting and remakes.
Repairs
The terms repairs is quite broad and covers a large amount of what our goldsmiths do. From ring sizing, shank replacements and re-clawing to chain repairs, replacing broken clasps and rhodium plating.
Manufactures
Our goldsmiths work closely with our designer to bring your visions to life. From bespoke engagement rings, anniversary celebrations and milestone birthdays we work with traditional methods like wax caving and delph casting to the new technology of 3D CAD design and casting. The chosen method is curated specially for your new piece.
Remakes
Jewellery is subject to day to day wear and tear which can end up with the piece being unable to be repaired. Often this is noticed when stones have fallen out or a piece becomes sharp and uncomfortable to wear. (Please note that does not always mean a piece cannot be repaired). There are different options when remaking a precious piece of jewellery including melt and roll. This involves melting the piece you have (after removing any stones) and reworking it into a replica (as close as we possibly can).
Before and afters
Jeremy is famous for saying babies and animals kept him in business as they often break chains, making chain repairs a staple in our workshop. Our on-site workshop is one of our most valued assets and is such a huge part of our identity. You can actually see our workshop from the High street, on our first floor. Our goldsmiths work on your jewellery as if it is their own and take the utmost care, time and attention whether they are resizing your new engagement ring or repairing your grandmas necklace that you always remember her wearing.
