The History
Since the Victorian 1800’s gift giving on 14th February, Valentine’s day, has been a world tradition.
The date of the 14th February was originally marked to celebrate the life of a Christian martyr Saint Valentine who was executed by the Romans on this date.
It became popular during the 1800’s to gift romantic gifts on this day including items such as poems and tokens. As the years went on, gifts moved on from poems to flowers and handmade cards called Valentine’s.
Today, 14th February, known as Valentine’s Day, is an international date to show love and appreciation for partners or friends.
Valentine’s Proposals
Proposing on Valentine’s Day has been popular for well over a century, especially after World War II as Valentine’s Day cards, flowers, and diamond engagement rings were heavily marketed— the day came to symbolise not just romance, but lifelong commitment. Today, its association with love, intimacy, and celebration makes it one of the most popular dates of the year for marriage proposals.
